Oregon, Connecting Patients Together

The Seaside Orthopedic Center in Seaside, Oregon, integrates innovative design with sustainability and community well-being. To address the prevailing southern winds, the building’s southern section rises taller, diverting wind around the structure and creating a sheltered central courtyard. This inviting outdoor space provides visitors with a comfortable area to relax. The building’s mass slopes downward, seamlessly transitioning into an accessible ramp that leads to a dual-purpose tsunami evacuation platform and functional outdoor garden, reflecting the center’s commitment to safety and ecological design.

Constructed with cross-laminated timber (CLT), the facility harmonizes with Oregon’s natural aesthetic while showcasing the potential of mass timber construction. Its wood louver façade enhances functionality and visual appeal, modulating sunlight and reinforcing the organic design. The U-shaped layout promotes efficient circulation, offering clear sightlines to the outdoors and easy access to programs. Visitors are welcomed into a triple-height atrium featuring a grand spiral staircase with seating and planters inspired by the surrounding landscape. This creates a cohesive and inviting experience for patients, visitors, and staff alike.
